How We Do It

Our Central Sunlighting system is based on a common-sense design concept. It takes sunlight striking a building’s exterior and, using a simple system of collectors and reflectors, distributes it as far as 65 feet inside the core of a building. Though the technology is highly specialized, our engineers have refined it into a remarkably straightforward, reliable system.

The system is composed of two sets of patented components. Our Sunlight Concentration Panel is a specialized sun tracking and concentration system that integrates easily into the façade of a building. The enclosed optical components follow the movement of the sun, capture its light and concentrate it into a focused beam.

The panel is connected to the Sunlight Guidance System through small glazed openings in the building’s exterior walls. Using highly reflective 3M film, the System directs the concentrated sunlight as far as 65 feet into the interior of the building, ensuring that minimal light is lost along the way.

This connects to a hybrid light fixture where the sunlight is extracted using prismatic film. The system seamlessly integrates with a wide range of modern efficient electric lighting fixtures so that only a single lighting system is required to ensure that interior spaces will be lit at night and on cloudy days.
